Building Bird Boxes
In addition to birds that nest in tree cavities, namely the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker, there are many other species of bird living in the longleaf forest and surrounding region that can benefit from a nesting box. Nesting boxes offer birds a protected space to build their nest and raise their young.
Be sure you research what dimensions and materials you should use to construct the nesting box, as well as where they should be located, depending on the species you are trying to attract and help.
Factors to Consider:
- Proximity to habitat
- Where and how you'll install the box
