Hummingbird Habitat

Hummingbirds are tiny birds that use a lot of energy. Habitat that supports their energy needs includes:

  • native flowers that provide lots of sweet nectar - they really like red and orange flowers
  • a water source
  • safe places for them to perch and build their tiny nests.

Man-made hummingbird feeders that are filled with a sugar solution that resembles nectar can also provide hummingbirds with a source of energy. Creating a good habitat for hummingbird species will meet as many of these needs as possible.
