The shapes and composition of Minnesota’s land and water as we know them today were the handiwork of glaciers carving across the landscape over the last two million years. These glaciers used to cover almost the entire state! The state’s many rivers, lakes, ponds and wetlands were formed 10,000 years ago when the glaciers melted.
