What's the Problem?

There are laws that are intended to keep people from polluting the Hackensack River. There are efforts to clean up the pollution that has been dumped in the river and its surrounding watershed. The Hackensack River is on the rebound!

But, the way that people use the water in the river, and the land that surrounds the river will determine its ultimate fate. YOU, the citizens of the Hackensack River Watershed, have the potential to determine that fate. You have the power to identify problems and to create change to ensure you have a healthy river and watershed for future generations.

What problem do YOU want to focus on to be part of the SOLUTION?

Questions to Consider

  • Brainstorm alone, with a small group, or your class, current issues or concerns within the Hackensack watershed.
  • Pick one issue/concern and create a concept map to figure out some causes and effects of this problem (Example).
  • Share your concept maps.  After hearing from others, is there anything about your own that you want to add or change?
  • Get your KWD chart out.  Update it with new things you know, want to know, or think you might do.
