These differences are the reasons for conflicts with wolves and conflicts between people about wolves.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In SOLVE your challenge is to find a creative way to build a bridge of understanding and respect between groups of people, and between people and wolves, so that conflict is reduced.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With wolves returning to more of their native habitats across the United States, what kind of public education project could you create that would help people peacefully coexist by sharing land and resources with wolves? As you begin this action step, keep in mind that respect matters if you want your message to be heard &#8211; respect for others with different perspectives and experiences, and respect for the wolf itself!<\/p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" role=\"button\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tReflection: Revisiting KND\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t<h3>Reflection: Revisiting KND<\/h3>\n<p>Remember writing those KND lists at the beginning of the Quest? For you to make a decision on wolf reintroduction, you will need to reflect on the understanding that you&#8217;ve gained on this Quest. As you read through what you wrote in KND, edit and add to the lists so they include what you&#8217;ve learned. Mark questions you have answered, and identify ones you still need or want to answer in order to take a stand on this issue.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>K:<\/strong> KNOW. Correct any inaccuracies on your list based on your new understanding. Add additional information that might be helpful in stating your position.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>N:<\/strong> NEED to know. Mark any questions that you have answered. Highlight any you still need and want to answer. Add new questions that you&#8217;d like to answer to help inform your decision.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>D:<\/strong> DO. The NPR radio interview describes how these groups are able to have friendly constructive meetings. What&#8217;s their trick?\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Hilary offers this quote at the end of the NPR interview: &#8220;Out beyond the ideas of right-doing and wrong-doing, there is a field. I&#8217;ll meet you there. Forget about who&#8217;s right, who&#8217;s wrong, who likes this, who hates this. Find that field and meet there. We have all been duped by posts and presentations that are filled with exaggerations, misinformation, and lies. That&#8217;s not what we&#8217;re going for in the Quest. Your public education project needs to get the reader&#8217;s attention, spark curiosity, and describe a positive action step.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s check out what your project could look like.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Go to this webpage: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livingwithwolves.org\/category\/did-you-know\/\">Did you know? Why did you choose these titles?<\/li>\n<li>Choose one post to read. Then get with a partner or two and take turns sharing what you learned.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">What are the strengths in the post? What would make it more engaging?<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">What groups of people might be curious enough to read this post?<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Would its headline catch this group&#8217;s attention? Why or why not?<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Does the photo draw the reader to the post? Why or why not?<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">What type of information was chosen to place under the photo? Why do you think that was an effective or ineffective way to start?<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">What other types of information were presented, or should be presented?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\t<h3><b>How can you create an attention-grabbing title grounded in facts?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>As you begin thinking about what part of the coexistence issue you want to focus on, consider the tone you want to set. Titles set the tone for what is in the body of your presentation. What does that mean?<\/p>\n<p>1. Take a look at the titles of a few news articles about wolves. Next, choose one article title. Rewrite the title to take out the conflict and put in an empowering fact and action. Create a title that hooks the reader without being polarizing. Here&#8217;s an example: This article titled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/trending\/gray-wolf-reintroduction-talk-has-ranchers-seeing-red\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>Gray wolf reintroduction talk has ranchers seeing red<\/i><\/a> from The Aspen Times (2018) could become <i>Gray wolf reintroduction talk compares tools ranchers can use to minimize impact on livestock.\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0<\/p>\n\t\t<h5>\t\n\teducator note<\/h5>\t\t\n\t\t\t<p><strong>Driving Question: <\/strong>How can you write or talk about coexisting with wolves so others will read or listen?<\/p>\n\n<ol>\n<li>Read about, watch videos of people having constructive conversations about conflicts from coexisting with wolves.<\/li>\n<li>Discuss or write responses to questions about the videos.<\/li>\n<li>Review some &#8220;Did you know&#8221; blog posts to get project ideas for how to create a public education project.<\/li>\n<li>Practice analyzing and creating titles for a project about wolves.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<ol>\n<li>There are effective ways for people with different view about wolves to talk with and listen to each other, and find common ground.<\/li>\n<li>There are effective ways to create a fact-based written public education piece that will catch people&#8217;s attention.<\/li>\n<li>Attention-grabbing titles can be based in facts, and not exaggerated.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<ol>\n<li>Once again, <u>revisit the KND lists<\/u>.
